police brutality and the community

when officers are accused of police brutality, the officers and the individual beaten are not the only ones affected. the entire community is affected by incident. police brutality puts a strain on the relationship between the police and the community. it is important for the police and the community to have a good relationship. When there is no trust between the two groups, it makes it harder for officers to do their job and it is hard for citizens to seek the police help when it is needed. Members of the community feel violated when an officer wrongly beats a member of their community. The outlook on the entire police force is changed by one incident. Sometimes when an individual of the community is attacked by the police, members of the community hold protests, file complaints with the police or worst a riot happens. A classic example of the community reactions to police brutality is the Rodney King incident. Rodney King was beaten by four California Highway Patrol officers. Rodney King did lead the police on a high speed chase but he didn't deserve to beaten by the police. After the officers were acquitted the community held a riot on April 29, 1992. the riot lasted a few days and 53 people were dead and the city had 1 billion dollars in damage. Members of the community were wrong for causing a riot, but they wanted their anger to be heard. the following is a video of the beating.http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKbwkrVJ-sE
