police and community part2

The relationship between the community and the police is very valuable. In order for there to be peace in the community officers and citizens must get alone. When there is tension between the two groups it makes it harder for officers to do their job and citizens begin to ignore doing their civic duty helping the police solve crimes. Officers are to protect citizens from criminals but the officers are becoming the criminals themselves. Who is supposed to protect the citizens from the officers? Police brutality has become accepted by society due to the violence our nation exists on. With the violence everywhere on TV screens, movie screens and video games, it is no wonder officers can’t tell the difference between police brutality and restraining a suspect. The officers are not the only ones that can not tell the difference, some citizens can’t tell the difference either. I proclaim that police brutality is a major problem and it must come to an end before citizens believe they too can take the law into their own hands. Police are supposed to be role models for citizens; they suppose to represent a fair justice system. When the community witness officers abusing one of their citizens, they do not see police officers as role models anymore. Any little citizens might still have vanishes when officers accused of police brutality are acquitted of all charges. “Even when police departments do try to hold officers who commit abuse accountable many avoid dismal or severe displinary sanctions because officers are provided with many opportunities to fight punishments in many cases they prevail thus sending a signal to fellow officers that they may not be held accountable no matter their actions”(Collins). That quote proves that the justice system shows favoritism towards its members. Not punishing officers is sending a bad sign to the public and to members with the police departments.
When the public finds out that officers received no punishments for their action, they get angry and take matters into their own hands because if officers can get away with breaking the law they believe they can too.
